Blonde & Blue - Moving Forward

AlisonandSusan4.jpg by you.

Many of you have asked how Alison is doing and it was time for me to give you a Blonde & Blue update on my dear friend, Alison.  The move was long and exhausting, but it was the best move she has made.  Alison is with family - us - and although we have been "friends" for 34 years, I feel like she is family.  I believe that when you treat your friends like family, and your family like friends - well, you can't go wrong.

Alison lived with us for about 2 months, spending that time catching up on her rest and planning her future goals.  She looked for an apartment to rent rather than purchase a home because she thought that she should take a few years familiarizing herself with the area and then decide later where she wants to settle more permanently.  Smart decision, Alison!

So, after Alison got all her ducks in line, and her kitties, she drove around Charlotte and found a community that was perfect for her.  A beautiful apartment community that is located above some high-end shops.  Every evening she can look out her window and see couples strolling around the shops that are lit up beautifully, and they have weekend events like live music and activities.  She is also just a walk away from a very nice movie theater.  For Alison, it was the perfect mix of comfortable living and convenience and it offered her the opportunity to meet people, eat at the restaurants, go to the movies, and shop without ever having to drive.

Drive.  I hate that word.  I don't like to drive anywhere.  I'm a homebody if there ever was.  And, Alison is going to get upset "again" when I say this, but as nice as her community is for her, it is 40+ miles away from us and on the other side of Charlotte.  Ugh.  In other words, I can't just get up in the morning and decide to have coffee with Alison and then come home.  Going to Alison's would have to be a day trip - which means, simply, that Alison needs to make the trek here to see us, because I can't just leave the kids with Big Bear without planning their day.  That's just too much, and Bob ends up calling me every 15 minutes anyway wondering when I'm coming home.  So, Alison visits us, in her red roadster - and when she does, she brings little Maggie Mae (her Chihuahua) and spends the night.

Maggie Mae has become a very nice friend to our Adolf and Hannah.  The three of them are now the best of friends.

I love it when Alison visits.  We talk, hang out on the sofa with our laptops and feet up - watching television and enjoying the fire.  She spends hours playing her piano too, as her beautiful baby grand piano sits elegantly in our sunroom.

And, while we're talking about Alison, I thought I should introduce you to her artwork.  Alison is an artist, like me, and a very good one too.  Her work is colorful and reflective.  I fell in love with her painting of the Peacock, and in consideration of my building her artist website, she gave me that beautiful painting.

It hangs proudly in my music room and goes perfectly with the color of the room, don't you think?

Alison spent Thanksgiving with us and will be with us for every holiday from now on.  I'm counting on it. I suppose I need to hang another stocking on the mantle with her name on it.

Alison has been busy unpacking boxes, shopping for a sofa, and preparing her apartment for the holidays.

So there you go folks, my Blonde & Blue update.  Alison is moving forward nicely, and starting a whole new life here in Charlotte, North Carolina.  I'm proud of her.  Now if she could just meet a nice, tall, handsome, educated, secure, funny, man to keep her warm at night then her life would be perfect.
